Human Development society was established in 1985 in collaboration with an NGO (Peace health and human development) based in Kobe Japan. Initially a youth exchange Program between the two countries was launched and Youth from Boyawalana went to Japan to study agriculture, nursing. Japanese youth came to Boyawalana to help farmers in agriculture work and study the culture of Sri Lankan villages. The aim of the organisation is to uplift the living standard of the people with special emphasis on areas of health, agriculture, education and culture.
Since then the society has been successfully in operation assisting the people of the area to address some social and economic issues which the public and private sector institutes have overlooked.
